Free generative AI risk check for small businesses
Where is your organisation with generative AI?
Choose one to start. In about eight minutes you will see which risks matter most for you, what other small businesses experienced, and what to do next.
Your answers are not stored anywhere. Built on the RAISE research with small businesses in the UK and Africa.
Example only. These results are for a fictional UK law firm of 10 to 49 people whose staff use public AI tools to draft and summarise documents.

Your generative AI risk profile
Your risks, highest first
Select a risk to see why it applies to you, what RAISE case-study SMEs experienced, and what to do about it.
The quick check estimates impact and likelihood from your profile. For a more accurate score, rate four statements for each of your top risks, exactly as set out in the RAISE Guidelines.
Your action plan
Start with the foundations, then work down your priority risks. Each item links to laws, tools, examples and further reading.

About this tool
How the RAISE self-assessment works
The tool helps small and medium-sized organisations spot the generative AI risks most likely to affect them, learn from businesses that have faced them, and plan what to do.
Four short steps
- Your use of AI: what you use generative AI for, how you access it, and whether you have a policy and training.
- Your organisation: size, location, sector, funding and in-house expertise.
- Data and customers: the kinds of data involved and who you serve.
- Preparedness: for each relevant risk, how far you have understood and addressed it.
How risks are scored
RF = (a × b) − (c × d)a is impact, b is likelihood, c is awareness and d is the measures you have in place, each rated from 1 to 5.
The method comes from the RAISE Guidelines. Your answers in the first three steps raise or lower each risk’s estimated impact and likelihood, and the tool tells you why. Your preparedness answer stands for awareness and measures. A risk factor of 12 or more is high priority, 6 to 11 medium, and below 6 lower. The optional deep dive asks the four RAISE statements directly for your top risks and replaces the estimates with your own ratings.
The tool currently covers 22 risks across technical, organisational, compliance and societal areas, plus sector-specific issues for health, legal, finance, education, creative, media, consultancy, research and technology platforms.
The evidence behind it
RAISE (Responsible Generative AI for SMEs in UK and Africa) studied how small businesses adopt generative AI. It was led by the University of Nottingham with Trilateral Research and funded by Responsible AI UK through UK Research and Innovation. The quotes and examples in your results come from 8 published case studies. Company names are pseudonyms.

Your data
The tool runs entirely in your browser. Your answers are not sent to us or stored anywhere. If you want to come back later, use Save progress to get a code that holds your answers in coded form. Keep it safe: we cannot recover it for you. Anyone with your code can see your answers, so share it only with people you trust.
Only the optional contact form at the end sends anything, and only if you choose to use it.
The tool sets no cookies, uses no tracking or analytics, and loads nothing from other websites. Links to sources open the external site in a new tab, and those sites have their own privacy policies.
Accessibility
The tool is designed to work with a keyboard, with screen readers and on phones, and follows your device’s light or dark setting. If anything gets in your way, please tell us and we will fix it.
Limits
This is a self-assessment to raise awareness. It is not legal advice and does not confirm compliance with any law or standard. Scores are indicative and depend on your answers.
